Professional Dog Training In Lehi, UT

OBEDIENCE BOARD AND TRAIN

CANINE BY DESIGN

Our in-home board & train programs guarantee a low-stress environment that prioritizes your dog’s safety and well-being. We prioritize quality over quantity, limiting the number of dogs per trainer to ensure your pup receives ample one-on-one attention. Recognizing the individuality of each dog, we avoid one-size-fits-all solutions and embrace flexibility in modern dog training techniques.

Throughout your dog’s stay, we keep you in the loop with comprehensive weekly updates. Our trainers provide insightful journals detailing progress and goals, along with snapshots and videos capturing the highlights of your dog’s training journey.

Basic Obedience

This program is designed for dogs at least 6 months of age. The duration for this program varies based on your specific training requests and the dog’s needs, but typically ranges from 4 to 5 weeks. Dogs with severe reactivity or aggression may require a Behavior Modification Program.

During the initial two weeks of the program, your dog will undergo foundation training to establish core obedience commands. Their trainer will focus on teaching your dog the following essential commands:

Recall: Ensuring your dog responds promptly and consistently when called, even in distracting settings.

Loose Leash Walking (Heeling): Teaching your dog to walk calmly beside you, without pulling.

Sit-Stay: Teaching your dog to sit and maintain the position until given the signal to move.

Down-Stay: Guiding your dog to lie down and remain in that position until released.

Place: Training your dog to go to a designated spot and stay until directed otherwise.

Out Command: This cue tells your dog to immediately drop whatever they have in their mouth.

Kennel Command: Creating a positive relationship with the kennel, in order for the dog to be comfortable in a safe space.

Cooperative Care: Instilling tolerant behavior in your pet to improve their behavior at vet visits and grooming appointments. This includes the acceptance of daily care, including nail trims, brushing, and physical examinations.

Dog/People Neutrality: Increasing confidence and stability in your pet that will benefit you in distracting environments.

In the subsequent weeks, we will fine-tune your dog’s newly acquired skills and work on applying them in real-life situations. Our trainers will focus on improving your dog’s responsiveness and reliability in a variety of environments.

“I had my sweet service dog in training, Applesauce, board and train here and the experience was WONDERFUL! She was loved, she was mentally and physically stimulated, I was kept up to date on her progress, and the skills she was taught have been life changing for her and for me. Applesauce came home happy, confident, eagerly obedient, and retained every bit of happy-go-lucky zest for life she had when she was picked up.”

CURRICULUM:

We know the value of living in a clean and comfortable living space with your puppy. This program will establish a consistent potty routine to avoid accidents in the home.

The crate is a useful tool for living with any dog. Some of the benefits include accelerated potty training, improved confidence, a reduction in anxious behaviors, and the prevention of destructive behaviors. Our trainers will help your puppy become comfortable being in the crate, making it a positive and secure space for rest and relaxation. Proper crate training allows you to live in the home with your dog peacefully and transport your pet safely.

While your puppy is in our care, we’ll establish a clear method of communication that will be used for future obedience training. This introduction sets the stage for training reliable obedience as they become more accountable.

The ability to capture your dog’s attention using their name cannot be overstated. Teaching your dog to respond to their name is fundamental to the ABCs of learning.

Failure to teach your dog to understand leash and collar communication can result in dogs that pull, fight the leash, and are reactive. By properly introducing the leash at a young age, you can avoid future daily conflict with your dog.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All dogs live within the comfort of their assigned trainer’s home. This ensures a relaxing stay for your pup in a familiar environment. Each trainer is limited to no more than 3 dogs in their care at any point in time.

Yes! Positive Reinforcement delivered in the form of play, food rewards, or freedom is incredibly powerful when it comes to building trust and teaching new behaviors. We use Positive Reinforcement to create a reward history with the dog, resulting in an increased drive and desire for your dog to complete the behavior.

Yes! Our team provides a thorough weekly training update for every pet owner that has enrolled their dog in our program. Our program also includes in-home sessions* training sessions with you at your home after we return the dog back to you. All dogs can benefit from structured obedience and education, regardless of their age. It is also always easier to begin your pet’s education sooner than later in order to set them up for a life free of conflict with you at home and for mutual enjoyment later in life. If you notice your dog is often distracted in new environments and around other dogs or people, this is a good indicator that they could benefit from training.

Additionally, we recommend training if your dog is showing signs of nervousness, anxiety, or failing to engage with you in play or training. Introducing obedience into a dog’s life can help them become more confident, less anxious in unfamiliar situations, and give you confidence in having your pet accompany you wherever you wish to be.

Our program is designed to provide lasting results. Your dog will be able to demonstrate target behaviors outlined in the curriculum at the end of their training program. Our team will work closely with you to provide ongoing support through your program’s follow-up appointments to help you and your dog enjoy the benefits of training.

Maintaining behavior requires commitment. Without consistent effort, learned behaviors can diminish over time. The key to lasting results with your dog is adhering to guidelines and recommendations made by our staff. This includes following recommended schedules and lifestyle structures, properly reinforcing desirable behaviors, and providing adequate feedback for unwanted behaviors.

Your commitment to training with Canine by Design is the beginning of a lifetime of harmony and memorable experiences with a dog that is both safe and well-behaved.
