Off-Leash Dog Training

Canine By Design

OUR OFF-LEASH OBEDIENCE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO KEEP YOU, YOUR PET, AND THE COMMUNITY SAFE THROUGH RELIABLE UNTETHERED OBEDIENCE.

For best results, we recommend that dogs be at least 12 months old and have a foundation in obedience before starting one of our off-leash programs. It is imperative that the dog already has a clear understanding, desire, and respect for obedience behaviors before moving away from leash training.

Board & Train

Our in-home board & train programs guarantee a low-stress environment that prioritizes your dog’s safety and well-being. We prioritize quality over quantity, limiting the number of dogs per trainer to ensure your pup receives ample one-on-one attention. Recognizing the individuality of each dog, we avoid one-size-fits-all solutions and embrace flexibility in modern dog training techniques.

Throughout your dog’s stay, we keep you in the loop with comprehensive weekly updates. Our trainers provide insightful journals detailing progress and goals, along with snapshots and videos capturing the highlights of your dog’s training journey.

Curriculum:

Recall: Ensuring your dog responds promptly and consistently when called, even in distracting settings.

Loose Leash Walking (Heeling): Teaching your dog to walk calmly beside you, without pulling.

Sit-Stay: Teaching your dog to sit and maintain the position until given the signal to move.

Down-Stay: Guiding your dog to lie down and remain in that position until released.

Place: Training your dog to go to a designated spot and stay until directed otherwise.

Out Command: This cue tells your dog to immediately drop whatever they have in their mouth.

Kennel Command: Creating a positive relationship with the kennel, in order for the dog to be comfortable in a safe space.

Cooperative Care: Instilling tolerant behavior in your pet to improve their behavior at vet visits and grooming appointments. This includes the acceptance of daily care, including nail trims, brushing, and physical examinations.

Dog/People Neutrality: Increasing confidence and stability in your pet that will benefit you in distracting environments.

During the initial weeks of the program, your dog will undergo foundation training to establish the core obedience commands. In the subsequent weeks, we will fine-tune your dog’s newly acquired skills and work on applying them in real-life situations. Our trainers will focus on improving your dog’s responsiveness and reliability in a variety of environments.

IN-HOME APPOINTMENTS:

Our team is committed to continuing our support to guarantee your ongoing success. Our main goal is to empower you with the tools necessary for a harmonious and enjoyable relationship with your dog. We’re here to make sure you and your dog continue to thrive together by providing you with 3 in-home appointments.

Drop-Off Appointment: Upon completion of their board and train program, your trainer will conduct an in-depth drop off session. In this appointment, we will demonstrate the progress your dog has made. This session is designed to ensure that you, as owners, are equipped with the knowledge to maintain and reinforce their newfound skills.

Follow Up Appointments: You will also receive 2 additional follow up appointments within 30 days of drop off. These are designed to provide you continued support, answer any questions you may have, and ensure that the transition from our home to yours is a successful one!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! We use all methods of reinforcement to get the best results from each dog. We train dogs that are happy, precise, and reliable in their obedience.

For best results, we recommend that dogs be at least 12 months old and have a foundation in obedience before starting one of our off-leash programs. It is imperative that the dog already has a clear understanding, desire, and respect for obedience behaviors before moving away from leash training.

Canine by Design’s trainers use Martin System electronic training collars. The ECollar allow us to effectively communicate with our dogs from a distance through a variety of modes that are comfortable and clear to your pet.

At Canine by Design, we use methods that provide the most effective results without compromising the safety and well-being of your pet. When used correctly, electronic collars provide instant feedback to the dog at an impersonal level, meaning the dog does not associate the feedback as coming from the handler. This allows them to learn how to properly interact with their environment and remain safe. Another benefit is the ability to communicate with your pet without nagging or frequent verbal reminders from the owner: creating behavior that lasts even if you are not present with your pet.

Our method produces dogs that love to perform obedience and are reliable in their commands.
